Quite honestly, I’ve been busy with other things for quite a long time, so the Dragon Slayer series and all the plans I’ve had for it have been relegated to the “when I can get to it” list.
It seems that this might be that time.
What jump-started my eagerness to get back into the Dragon Slayer projects was a new-to-me fictional series by Stephen Lawhead. His writing skills inspired me and I decided to get to work on some fiction again. The DS Chronicles was the logical place to start.
First order of business… a fresh new edit
One of the things Lawhead’s writing did for me was rekindle the desire to tell great stories using words on a page. He’s a master at it and observing what he did and how he did it moved me to refresh the Dragon Slayer books. There are always things about them I don’t like when I re-read them, so I’ve decided to update the story with better descriptions, expanded character development, and a few plot points filled in a bit better than was the case in the original manuscripts.
If you purchased an ebook copy, you can set your Kindle to automatically update, so any changes I upload will eventually get to you. So far, I’ve refreshed all of book 1 and am about 1/3 of the way through book 2. I’m very glad that I’m doing it. I think the final product is much better than the original.
Next projects: the collector’s edition
For some time I’ve had the idea to create a collector’s editions of the Dragon Slayer Chronicles. It will be…
- All three books combined into one hard-cover book
- Illustrated – I’ve discovered a wonderful illustrator who’s been creating character sketches for me. There are some on this page.
- Will include an appendix that outlines the reasons dragons may have been a real thing in our past. Really.
- And the cover is the part I’m most excited about. I’m going to commission the same artist who created the character sketches to create a wrap-around style, full-color battle scene from the book that features all four dragons and their masters, and all of the dragon slayers. It’s going to be epic!
Some of the character images so far…
I already have 95%-ish of the images completed, so I thought I’d share some of them with you!
